Magazine Premium is Ready and I Want to Give Away 5 Copies

by   |  Posted in Articles  |  48 comments

I’m almost finished Magazine Premium and I thought it would be a good idea to open up a discussion to see what features people would like to see available. Now don’t go crazy, and please don’t repeat the same requests. I’ll take the top 5 best requests (that aren’t a part of the theme already) and I’ll add them to Magazine Premium. I’ll also give a free copy to those who suggested the top 5.

Add your suggestions in the comments below. If someone already suggested a feature you wanted, don’t fret, just think of something else you might want to see in Magazine Premium.

Here is a quick list of features that I have already added:

  • widgetized footer bar
  • custom footer text
  • optional “Powered by WordPress” link
  • checkboxes for cats and pages to include in nav menu
  • optional secondary nav menu
  • optional search bar or home link in main nav menu
  • 4 front page section with selectable category feed
  • variable site and sidebar width
  • featured slideshow with selectable category feed
  • optional images for each front page section
  • font selection
  • color selection
  • sidebar ads widget
  • sidebar tabs widget (recent comments, popular posts and subscribe)
  • simple mailing list/subscribe to our mailing list function
  • custom CSS editor
  • full width page template (no sidebars)
  • new single page options panel with Ajax save function (no more page reloading to save)
  • drop-down login panel

Those are all of the features I can think of right now.

Here is a sneak peak of the new options panel:

Here is sample of the new design layout:

It still has a little ways to go so don’t be too judgmental.

WINNER #1: Matt – a more elaborate author page
WINNER #2: tinym – presets and @font-face kits
WINNER #3: Marcus – more control of the Read More link
WINNER #4: Boris – choose the post’s thumbnail image
WINNER #5: Scott – easily add links to the nav and sub-nav menus

    A Henry Louis

C’est une blague de vouloir traduire ce th?®me en fran?ßais alors qu’en une seul phrase vous faites plus de 5 fautes d’orthographe et de grammaire. Ce n’est pas un service ?† rendre.

    To Henry Louis
This is a joke!. You obviously aren’t able to write in french without making 5
mistakes but you want to translate this new theme?.

Btw, i love this new Magazine Premium

      Hey Eric,

This is a place for people to support each other, not put each other down for whatever reason. Henry Louis is offering to help out for free and all your are doing is giving him a hard time.

yes, i really understand and i’m sorry, but, free or not, it is not a good deal for you and for this new premium release if you want it to be perfect in another language.
      My 2 cents
      Sorry again.

      Bonjour Eric,

J’accepte la critique, mais parfois un peut de modestie serait plus sage.

      Cordialement.

I accept criticism, but sometimes one can of modesty would be wiser.

      cordially

I think the new theme is excellent. I was wondering if you could add some icons in the sidebar for the more popular social networking sites such as Twitter, Facebook, Stumble Upon, Digg, etc.

Looking forward to seeing the finished product.

I would give 2 left toes to be able to easily add in a background image.

Super anxious to have the premium version.

With the premium version will we still need a separate plugin to count comments, or will it be in the theme itself?

    • c.bavota on January 20, 2010 at 12:50 am

There is a comment link with the number of comments on the front page and all archive pages.

We would also love a list of customizations we can add to posts. Such as thumbnail, and subtitles – there’s nothing that says what/where.

    1) I have a lot of advertisers waiting for us to implement the premium theme on our site. We need a banner ad space under our logo, and the ability to put category-specific sponsorship banners, buttons and box ads on our category pages.

    2) Be able to post a video as the top story.

    3) Also would love for it to recognize the thumbnail image from a YouTube embed as a photo so I don’t have to grab a separate still to run with a video post.

    Love the new layout!!

I made some mirrors of a site to analyze features of different templates and the result is that Magazine basic is the best.
An important feature lacking, would be to have contextual information: in many sites comments are even more important then posts and there is the need to show some excerpts of latest comments but in a category page I need latest comments, latest posts, tag cloud from that category only! I always need sidebars but the information they provide must relate to the type and the content of the page they are on.

Thank you for choosing my idea! I look forward to the completion of Magazine Premium :)

I would like to offer just two ideas (if already not considered)

    1. An option to change the color of the Nav Bars
    2. An option to load background image for the header section.

Otherwise, Magazine B is a very nice theme. Thanks,

Wow, excellent web designs and layouts you have there. And I have to commend that you accept requests from people too. That’s really a great thing to keep up with what people want. Good Job!
